Get Familiar...Meet Star Trak’s Charles Hamilton
What’s next for New York rap? These days, a lot of industry insiders are pointing towards 20-year-old Harlem native Charles Hamilton, who recently signed to Interscope through Pharrell’s Star Trak imprint. The kid can rap his ass off, but he’s definitely on some left-field creativity shit with his self-produced, sample-based beats. His DJ Green Lantern mixtape Outside Lookin’ is on the way, and he recently debuted “Brooklyn Girls,” a tribute to fly females that flips a sample from KP & Envyi’s “Swing My Way.” Ima have to co-sign on this one

RZA as Bobby Digital: You Can't Stop Me Now
Hip Hop artists and fictional comic book characters make an easier fit then one would think. Although Hip Hop since its inception has been steeped in rhetoric about reality and the importance of being authentic, there has always been an undertone of hyper reality or reality amplified teetering on the fantastic. This is why aliases are so paramount in the genre. The stage names are almost the MCs other identity when they take the mic. The most legendary MCs have made careers on boasting how dope they are with clever punch lines amplifying their abilities to almost super human characteristics. No one knows this better or has exploited it more than the legendary Wu Tang Clan. Part of the Clans mystique has been the incorporation of kung fu excerpts in their music and comic book characteristics in their persona. This clever tactic has allowed the group to make a balance between hardcore, gritty east coast rap and absurd fantasy as each MC takes on a new moniker and throw themselves into the character.
This past year has seen a bit of a rift in the legendary crew as a few of the top lyricists in the group have broken ranks and showed their distaste for last years' "8 Diagrams", most notably for the RZAs production on the album. Undaunted by the criticism RZA takes solace in his comic book persona; Bobby Digital to produce a new album entitled "Digi Snax" due later this summer. The first single "You Can’t Stop Me Now" has the instantly recognizable Wu sound with sampled guitar licks, dirty drum kicks and ominous chanting on the chorus complete with the late Ol Dirty Bastard's drunken crooning. The video is a comic book inspired visual acid trip. Lyrically the song finds RZA in a retrospective state contemplating his street days and his early career achievements. The subject matter of early Wu leads one to believe maybe he was affected a little more by the voices of dissent then he leads on. But, it's nothing a comic book hero can’t handle...

Kanye West-Flashing Lights Video Part 3?
However, when the Spike Jonze directed video was released in all of its lingerie clad, Rita G slow motion glory (thank you Spike) the short clip baffled some fans and was lauded by others as a masterpiece. Version 2 of the video leaked on the internet about a week ago and was much more literal then the first version. The video showed another model obviously deeply intertwined in the night life and the danger and tragedy that can come from it. Just a few days ago, yet another version of the video was leaked on the internet and seems to be frustrating and delighting fans equally. This version seems to have no connection with the other two videos and appears to be a cinematic cross between a horror film and high fashion couture add. As far as storyline goes, it's hard to make rhyme or reason of it but I don't mind watching again and again.

Ferrari California GT
For the first time in a Ferrari, there will be no manual gearbox option and power will be 30bhp down on the entry-level F430. Engine revs are lower and torque is slightly increased, all signs that this car is much more of a luxurious tourer than a hardcore sports car. "It's not a screamer," said a Ferrari spokesman this week. "It's not track-based and it's not about out-and-out power; it's more driveable." The naturally aspirated 4,300cc V8 will be matched to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission for a smoother drive. The 0-62mph sprint will take less than four seconds and carbon dioxide emissions will be about 310g/km. The Ferrari California is set to launch at the Paris Auto Show in October

Nike Hyperdunk - Kobe Bryant x Jackass x Snakes
Last month, Nike's campaign for the all new Hyperdunk basketball shoe kicked off with a campaign featuring the NBA's 2007/2008 MVP Kobe Bryant leaping over a speeding Aston Martin. Following up on this, Kobe and the Hyperdunk's latest spot also incorporates the Jackass crew with the backdrop featuring a pool filled with snakes. Of course with the inclusion of Jackass, it's more then safe to assume there's some added comedic value involved in the video.
Busta Rhymes: Don't Touch Me Remix
No one in the current hip hop climate knows the power of the posse cut like Busta Rhymes. As a member of the Leaders of the New School early in his career, Busta made a name for himself as a solo artist by completely destroying any posse cut he landed on (including the completely classic verse on Scenario). Therefore, it is not surprising that at this point in his career Busta chooses to help usher in the new posse cut renaissance disguised as the remix. The original version of "Don’t Touch Me" is what you would expect from Busta, an energetic lyrical rant over minimalist jungle drums. The remix breathes new life into the track by giving each artist on it a chance to reinterpret the song. Everyone holds their own here but Lil Wayne turns the beat into a drug induced playground as hip rips the track in half and Nas sounds about 10 years younger as the track seems to re-energize him. Also, it is always great to hear one of the originators of the posse cut Big Daddy Kane.

Beck & Danger Mouse Team Up On “Chemtrails"
From MF Doom to Cee-Lo, Danger Mouse has worked with some of the best. But if there’s one artist we would have paired him to do an album with, it’s the always unpredictable Beck.
The singer/songwriter has spent his 14 year career weaving in and out of different genres, and Danger Mouse has been experimenting with a similiar brew of rock, hip-hop, and electronica since coming on the scene in 2003. The two have been hard at work on Beck’s 8th studio album, Modern Guilt, which is due in stores this fall...I'll post teh 1st joint that leaked "Chemtrails" next week
Best Story Never Told
This morning, producer Just Blaze announced that his Fort Knocks artist Saigon has officially been released from Atlantic Records after three years of repeated album delays.
This is a good move for an artist like Sai, who has a strong fanbase but doesn’t quite fit into the radio programming box. Just also claims that they have retained full ownership of their masters, so we’ll probably end up hearing The Greatest Story Never Told on a different label. To celebrate the release, Just leaked a dope new Saigon joint called “Believe It,” featuring an auto-tune hook. Ironically, its the most radio-friendly song he’s ever done.

Want to know why Y-3 stays winning? No it’s not because the hype kids are buzzing, it’s not because rappers are rockin them in their videos, and it’s definitely not because they’re cheap and easy to get. The reason the high-fashion brand (that happens to do footwear) stays in check is because Yohji and his crew put that work in with every new seasonal drop. This Hayworth II Mid, the follow-up to the brand’s most recognizable silhouette drops July 15th, and is upgraded with a strap for staying tight while looking tight. Coolest shoes of the summer? We wouldn’t be shocked.
$270, Y-3 Store, NYC.

New Blackberry 9000
The latest Crackberry to join the family was recently unveiled. Among the leaders in PDA phones, the code named 9000 was officially bestowed the some what cheesy name Bold. Nomenclature aside, the Blackberry Bold enjoys a well deserved upgrade as the first major BB release in two years. The aesthetics are relatively the same, keeping that distinct BB look stressing what most business users will confirm, usability. The development of a new software platform goes hand in hand with the obvious hardware improvements such as HSPDA, Wifi, 625MHz CPU, 1GB internal flash memory and expandable storage up to 16 GB. While unsure of how many people defected from Blackberry to the iPhone, for those looking to return to the goodness of a solid keyboard, a new king has emerged.

Weezer-Pork & Beans
Good Looks Zums, still bumpin this...
It's been a long time since River Cuomo first put on that yellow cardigan and horn rimmed glasses and performed on the virtual "Happy Days" set. It's been even longer since he and his band Weezer were considered the kings of nerd rock. Time has passed, so has fickle tastes and seemingly so did Cuomo's anger and despair lyrically. This fact was obviously not lost on Weezer's record company who were reportedly very upset at the first version of Weezer's self titled album that they turned in. They told the band that they needed a single and couldn't find one amongst the mostly guitar driven art pop. Upset and distraught, Cuomo's went home and penned an angry response which culminated into their first single "Pork and Beans".
The first most noticeable thing about the new single "Pork and Beans" is that it sounds very familiar. So familiar that it could have actually come from Weezer's mid 90’s material rather than their newer sound. Everything about it screams "The Blue Album". The riff is catchy yet weird and quirky. The bass line is a deep grove with a sharp banjo twang every few bars. Cuomo sings off pitch, yet completely on melody, about not conforming to rules. However, it's not done in a snobby rock star way that has total disdain for the mainstream. Weezer has always had a way of showing their dissatisfaction in a charismatic way. Even the line "Timbaland knows the way to reach the top of the chart/ maybe if I work with him, I can perfect the art" seems more tongue in cheek than an actual diss. In an attempt to make a song about refusing to write a hit, it surely sounds like Weezer has another one.
Pastelle x Ksubi Sunglasses
Pastelle, the much much anticipated clothing label from Kanye West, has been very discreet. But finally, now we get glimpse of its sunglass collaboration with Ksubi, an Australian fashion label known amongst many celebrities. Ksubi designer, George Gorrow, first worked with Kanye in 2006 to create stage eyewear for his music videos. The line will be launched in October and will feature a limited edition gold frame sunglasses that will go for around $2000.
This is definitely a collaboration worth waiting for, as it seems like Kanye and George Gorrow make for a strong team as Kanye says, "I love the sunnies Ksubi has produced over the years, and it's an honour to collaborate with them on this first installment of Pastelle frames, George is an incredibly talented designer, and I've never met anyone who knew more about sunglasses and other cool stuff."
Note I do not believe these are the glasses in the pic...just a heads up

Nike Air Jordan Fusion V Grey Nurse
Legendary Nike designer, Tinker Hatfield, responsible for the majority of Michael Jordan's most popular signature sneakers has succeeded throughout the years not only based on immense talent but an extraordinary imagination as well. The original Jordan V design was inspired by the P-51 Mustang, a WWII fighter plane used by the Tuskegee Airmen combined with a rendering of a Grey Nurse Shark on the midsole. Keeping this theme alive, strong military colors are featured included with the addition of shark eyes and the initials MJJ on the side standing for Michael Jeffrey Jordan. Surely to be a collectors item in the future, these are now available at Jordan Flight Club with a price of $175
